Community Fridge Volunteer
We have an exciting opportunity for people wishing to help tackle food waste and food poverty in our community! The Willingdon Trees Community Fridge and Pantry are seeking new volunteers!
Volunteering is a great way to improve your skills, add experience to your CV, give something back to your local community and feel good about yourself! Our Community Fridge was set up in February 2023 and since then, we have helped redistribute over 20,000kg of food (which is equivalent to around 45,000 meals).
This summer, we launched our Community Supermarket which runs on Wednesday mornings and gives all our visitors a much wider choice of foods.
We now want to add a new person/people to our amazing volunteer team who help run the
Community Fridge so we can continue to provide vital support to our local community.
We are seeking people to help with: serving community members, stock management, keeping the fridge clean, record keeping, collecting donations, promoting the fridge within the community and preparing meals for freezing. Previous experience is not necessarily needed as training and support will be given.
You will be required to complete an application form and undergo a DBS check to volunteer with us.
You will need the following skills:
·Organisational - you are able to help organise the fridge
·Reliable – you can come along at the times agreed
·Friendly – you can make people feel welcome
·Catering – you are able to safely handle food and undertake food safety training if required
The role may include:
-Assisting community members who come in to get food from the fridge
·Helping organise the donations within the fridge and store cupboards
·Cleaning the fridge
·Food Safety record keeping (e.g. temperature checks)
-Collecting donations of food
-Preparing and cooking meals to be frozen
Primarily, we need volunteers to be available Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday mornings although
other times/days can be discussed if this role sounds interesting to you.
Please contact Ellen Ludford on ellen.l@willingdontrees.org.uk or 01323 504438 for more details and to discuss applying for this position.
