NHS Winter and Strikes Updates
As you are likely to be aware, this week is potentially going to be very pressured for local NHS services, especially our large acute hospitals, as more people need support with their health, including the rising rates of flu in our communities and population.
These pressures are going to be compounded by the residential doctors’ industrial action, which is taking place from 7am, – Wednesday, 17 December – until 7am on Monday, 22 December.
Health and care partners across Sussex are working very closely together and preparing for this action, so the NHS can continue to care for people who need it.
Please remember:
- The NHS is still there for you if you need it, including emergency care.
- While services are under pressure from flu and resident doctor industrial action, most people with flu can recover safely at home with the support of your local pharmacy.
- If you’re unsure what to do, NHS 111 online or on the phone can help you get the right advice.
- It’s really important to only go to A&E or call 999 for serious or life-threatening emergencies.
- If you are eligible for vaccines, please make sure you’ve had them.
