Who is this course for?

All agencies will benefit by attending this course and enhancing knowledge, skills and practice around working in a more culturally competent way. 

Overview:

“Vandu Languages’ ‘Working with an Interpreter’ Workshop is an opportunity to learn how to get the best out of your interpreting appointments. Presented by our Deputy Director, Aaron Clarke, we will look at the role of the interpreter, how to best interact with them and your non-English speaking client, your role as a service provider and other aspects such as administrative policies and how to book interpreters.  

This special extended session includes applying cultural curiosity to your work with non-English speaking clients and asylum seekers.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Learn how to get the most out of your interpreting appointments
  • Learn about the role of the interpreter, what’s required of you as a service provider and Vandu’s role as a language agency
  • Apply cultural curiosity to your work with non-English speakers and asylum seekers
  • Understand the administrative aspect of interpreting – cancellation costs, how to book appointments and more.
