Today, we have published national and subnational life expectancy estimates for the UK for the three-year period 2022 to 2024. These publications show period life expectancy, which is the average number of years someone will live beyond their current age based on mortality rates during the period.  

We have published estimates at national level for the UK, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and subnational estimates for local areas across the UK.

National life tables – life expectancy in the UK: 2022 to 2024

Details include: 

• period life expectancy at birth and at age 65 by sex for the UK and constituent countries  

• complete life tables for the UK, GB, England and Wales combined, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with a timeseries between 1980 to 1982 and 2022 to 2024  

Life expectancy for local areas of the UK: between 2001 to 2003 and 2022 to 2024

Details include: 

• period life expectancy at birth and by sex for local areas across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales

• abridged life tables with a timeseries between 2001 to 2003 and 2022 to 2024
