Hello from Sussex Wildlife Trust!

Our Wilder Learning Team at Sussex Wildlife Trust, want to give young people the opportunity to help codesign what we do on the Taster Day and on the subsequent course next year. It is pitched at 16+ but there is flexibility on this. The provision is fully funded and transport costs can be reimbursed if applied for in time.

Here are details on the sorts of opportunities we can offer on the taster day/ full course days provided in the Spring ’27 below:

It would be lovely to gather ideas and particular interests on the Taster in October.

Practical woodland management activities, chance to learn about woodland biodiversity and how we can encourage this:

• Nature ID – walks/talks, or alongside habitat creation or pond dipping
• Nature connection activities to support wellbeing, curiosity and developing a deeper relationship with nature/see our place as part of it
• Wildlife focus – could ask for a specialist volunteer to come and join us to share what they know about woodland wildlife.
• Creative activities with natural materials – green woodworking, clay, environmental art, photography, drawing, printing, natural dyeing etc

Fire lighting, campfire cooking (so many options!)

• Shelters, dens, hammocks
• Sustainability focussed activities

Time to be in the woods, explore and enjoy it!

For the course early next year, it can be a mixture of woodland and coastal activities.., building on what we have done on the Taster Days/ what the young people want. These are the sorts of things on offer, for reference:

• Coastal activities can include things like
• Rock pooling and strandline searches
• Ocean connection activities
• Coastal ID and Wildlife
• Understanding the beach environment: tides, erosion, ecology etc
• Beach campfire cooking, shelters
• Creative activities with beach materials

Time to be at the coast, explore and enjoy it!
