Grants for historic church interiors and churchyard structures
ChurchCare is the Church of England’s Cathedral and Church Buildings Division. It works in partnership with various grant-giving bodies to provide funding for the conservation of historic church interiors and churchyard structures. Funding for this scheme is provided in partnership with the Pilgrim Trust and the Radcliffe Trust.
Objectives of Fund
Funding is available for the conservation of structures in churchyards that are under the responsibility of the Parochial Church Council (PCC).
Value Notes
Grants of up to £10,000 are available.
In the last round, there were two applications of which one grant was awarded.
Who Can Apply
Anglican parish churches in England are eligible to apply.
Restrictions
The following are not eligible for funding:
- Structures in closed churchyards that are the responsibility of the local authority.
- Works of a cosmetic nature only (eg cleaning).
- Soft landscaping.
- Speculative work.
- Routine maintenance.
Eligible Expenditure
Funding is available for the conservation of churchyard structures such as tombs, external monuments, grave markers, churchyard walls, railings and gates.
To be eligible, the churchyard must be under the responsibility of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and the structure must be listed separately from the church building.

How To Apply
There are two application rounds per year (usually in the Spring and Autumn).
- The first deadline for 2026 applications has passed.
- The second deadline for 2026 applications is 26 October 2026 for decisions on 11 December 2026.
An application form is available to complete online and must be submitted with the relevant supporting documentation.
