Citizens Advice Eastbourne - Research & Campaigns Volunteer

People face far more problems than they should because policy fails them. No-one sees that more than we do: we help more people with more problems than anyone else. That gives us a unique insight into the challenges people are facing today.

We are looking for a volunteer who can spare a few hours a week to co-ordinate and develop research and campaigns (R&C) work for Citizens Advice Eastbourne to help us campaign on big issues affecting people's lives

Main responsibilities:

- to ensure effective completion to Citizens Advice of evidence forms,
- to monitor and evaluate R&C trends and statistics
- to provide regular reports on R&C work to Manager and Trustees
- to ensure systems are in place to inform Advisers about current local/national R&C issues, including access to R&C bulletins,
newsletters, and requests for evidence from Citizens Advice
- to submit evidence to Citizens Advice on current R&C issues, as and when appropriate.
- to respond to issues of current concern and select priorities for action

Skills knowledge and experience required to fulfill this role

- commitment to the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice service
- understanding of the importance of R&C work in the advice process
- commitment to challenging injustice
- knowledge and interest in current local and national R&C issues and current affairs
- ability to support, motivate and enable others
- communication, negotiation and presentation skills
- ability to analyse and evaluate, plan and produce written information and reports
- ability to work as a member of a team

Desirable additional skills:

- experience/ability to undertake media work (writing press releases, giving interviews for press, TV and radio)
- experience/ability to identify training and development needs and in training others
- experience in facilitating groups
- experience/current skills in the use and application of IT (word processing, database etc.)

This role can be home or office based, although some meetings in the office will be required.
